J'Accuse...!

Zola's open letter, published across the front page of L'Aurore on 13 January 1898, named eleven army and government officials by name. The editor printed 300,000 copies; Paris sold out before noon.

Anne Fausto-Sterling

Biologist Anne Fausto-Sterling proposed in 1993 that there are five biological sexes — herms, merms, ferms, males, females — and that medicine had collapsed them into two by surgical force on intersex infants.

Allegations of biological warfare in the Korean War

China charged the U.S. with dropping plague-infected fleas and cholera-laced clams over North Korea in 1952. Twenty-five captured American airmen confessed. Every confession was later recanted. The insects remain unresolved.

Nigersaurus

Nigersaurus ran 500 teeth in stacked conveyor-belt rows that cycled out every 14 days. Its skull was so thin and window-riddled it could not be removed from the ground in one piece.
